WASHINGTON, D.C., October 7, 1998 At the close of its annual meeting today, the Board of Directors of the American Fiber Manufacturers Association announced the election of Werner Burgert of BASF as the new Chairman of the Association for the coming year. Burgert is President, Fiber Products, BASF Group, and Executive Vice President of BASF Corporation. He attended technical universities at Berlin and Karlsruhe, Germany, where he received his Ph.D. in Engineering. He has worked for BASF for the last 30 years in the United States and Germany, and for the past year, has been serving as Vice Chairman of AFMA, and Chairman of its Executive Committee.
Burgert's successor as Vice Chairman of the Association is W. Donald Johnson, Vice President and General Manager of DuPont Nylon worldwide. Johnson joined DuPont in 1974 and he has held technical, manufacturing, and management assignments in the U.S. and Europe. He is a graduate of N.C. State with degrees in applied mathematics and engineering.
The AFMA Board has also elected Art Roth, President of Cookson Fibers, Inc., to be Treasurer of the Association. In addition to Burgert, Johnson, and Roth, the other members elected to the AFMA Executive Committee are Ted Kelly, Vice President and General Manager of Amoco Fabrics and Fibers Co., and immediate Past President of the Association; William Harris, President and CEO of Hoechst Polyester; Rody Dayvault, Director, Fibers Business Organization, Eastman Chemical Company; and Richard Ryan, Vice President and General Manager, Sterling Fibers, Inc.
The American Fiber Manufacturers Association is the trade association for U.S. producers of manufactured fiber.
